Perfect Grow S02 EP07: Q&A Special
You asked questions, our grow expert and show host, Max answered! Read through, watch the video, and find the answers to some fairly common cannabis-related dilemmas and unknowns. Only in episode seven of Perfect Grow season two.
Q: Is There Any Disadvantage to Feminized Seeds?Â
A: There’s not many disadvantages to feminized seeds. They are feminized. Most people actually want to grow female flowers because that’s the one we smoke. But if we talk about disadvantages, sometimes you can get a male out of it. It’s fairly rare, but you should always scan for it. With regular seeds, you know that 50 percent will be female and 50 will be male, and in that case you should always scout for it.Â
Q: What Is a Sign That Plants Won’t Make It?Â
A: One ominous sign is two weeks after planting. If your plant hasn’t grown by much and you see that the root is not spreading, it’s most likely that the plant has a root rot and it’s not going to make it.Â
Q: What Is the Difference Between Female and Male Plants?Â
A: The most obvious difference is the fact that we don’t smoke male plants. Male flowers are also different; they are smaller and produce very little to no trichomes. In contrast, female flowers do produce a lot of trichomes, which are the primary sites where cannabinoids like THC are stored.Â
Q: How Does a Plant Shift from Female to Male and Vice Versa?Â
A: Plants work with hormones. Hormones are triggered by stress. If you don’t want your plants to change sex or have hermaphrodite problems, you should avoid stress. The most common stress is from lack of environmental control. If your environment is really well-maintained, with correct setting for all parameters, there won’t be stress for your plants and the risk of switching sex is none.Â
Q: How to Disguise the Smell of Cannabis?Â
A: Growing cannabis is sometimes smelly, and you may want to disguise the smell. There are two ways to do it. You either eliminate the smell or try to cover it. Or do both. Smell can be eliminated by using filters (usually carbon filters) or ionisers, which pretty much fry the air. Covering up? Put a smell in the ducting fan, such as smelly wax or perfume in a plastic box. Check back here on everything you need to know about cannabis smell.Â
Q: How Long Should You Cure Your Weed?Â
A: About 1 to 3 months. We explain more about curing in the last episode of Perfect Grow season two, streaming after New Year.Â
