Perfect Grow S02 EP04: Automated Grow Tent
You need a lot of experience to know when to water your cannabis plants. You need to know when to weigh the pot, touch the substrate, and determine if the soil is sufficient and has enough water in it. If you have this kind of knowledge that’s awesome, but when you can automate irrigation that could even be more awesome. In the fourth episode of the new Perfect Grow show, check out on all the different sensors that can help automate your grow room and allow you for an unmanned irrigation of the plants, remote temperature and light control, and much more.
Use the good old water bucket or automate irrigation. Manually check the tent if everything is all right or get a notification on your phone. There is beauty in both ways growing, but if you love to bring tech and gadgets in the tent, then this is the right episode for you. Our expert grower Max explains all about Trolmaster, one of the systems that can help you make everything self-executing in the grow room. From watering, to temperature control, intensity of lights, pH, EC, you can have every aspect of the growing process connected and covered via one system that you can follow remotely and give your orders. How cool is that?
How Automatic Systems Work?
If you have the budget to automate your grow tent, it will make your life as a grower much easier. Automated systems can be installed in a grow tent, but also in bigger grow rooms and greenhouses. So, there is flexibility with them.
The system is connected to a main computer which controls every aspect of the growing process. It is triggered whenever sensors detect measurements and values that need improvement or reaction from your side.
Whenever you think that something might be wrong with your automated system, a special hi-tech camera can help you detect any possible problems when you are away from the grow room, and see visually what’s happening with your plant.
List of All Toys and Gadgets for Grow Automation
Let’s go through the full list of equipment that can help you automate irrigation, lights, nutrient feeds and more in your cannabis grow room. Max explains about each item separately in the video.
Device station
This is like a power plug where you put your humidity and temperature devices, and all other devices. You can use it remotely.
AG Cable
The piece from where you are going to get information in order to turn off and on each of the plugs.
Tent Control
Or the brain of the operation. This is the guy that gives the order to everything and you are able to put all your orders inside. For example, what temperature to stay in the grow room, what humidity, etc.
Camera
The eye of the operation. Having a camera in the grow tent/room allows you to know everything that’s happening inside. There are camera options with strong security parameters, so nobody can hack it and find out what you’re growing.
Substrate sensor
A pin that you plug in the pot and tells how much water is in it. It allows you to optimize the watering process of your plants. One of the most important things for controlling your environment is getting your irrigation right. The substrate sensor will help a lot with knowing when to water your plants.
Full spectrum quantum sensors
A sensor that tells how much light you need on your plants. Literally, too much light is going to burn your plants, and too little may lead to lower yields. Having a sensor to help you determine all that will optimize the light regiment in the grow room. Because sensors tell on point the situation with lights, while instructions that come with various grow lights you can order online are cool but not always correct.
Water detector
A sensor that helps prevent flooding or any water leakage in the grow tent. With a water sensor you get an alert that says ‘hey, there is water in your tent.’
pH & EC sensors
The pH device tells you how acidic your water is. EC tells you how many minerals there are in the water for fertigation.
The total budget to have all the above-mentioned technology could well surpass $1000. It’s certainly an investment that you can do without, but there are a lot of benefits if you go about it. If/when you have the resources for automating your grow room, you basically get a system with sensors that can be used for many years, and with which you can follow all parameters important for irrigation, lights, warmth, humidity and more. Highly recommended if you love hi-tech stuff and if all cannabis is valuable to you.
