Perfect Grow S02 EP06: Problems with Environment

Soft Secrets
21 Dec 2024

What kind of environment-related problems could affect your cannabis plants when growing? How to address these problems fast and save your crops from getting sick or even dying? The focus in the sixth episode of Perfect Grow season two is precisely environment problems, such as pH being in the wrong range, temperature humidity mistakes, presence of pests and more.

Managing the right environmental conditions for your cannabis plants is another key aspect of the grow process. Whether leaves are turning yellow or curling, or the plants are just appearing different than they are supposed to, it could be an environment-related issue.

What Are the Most Common Environment Problems for Cannabis?

Let’s take a quick look at the most common environment-related problems that our grow expert Max Majot discuss in the new episode.

Nutrient Problems

This usually concerns a lack or excess of nutrients being absorbed by cannabis. For example, if you give your plant too much of something, it’s going to absorb it and have too much of it in the system, creating a disbalancing situation, and the plant is not going to be well. Often the problem is also the pH being in an unacceptable range and the plant fails to absorb nutrients properly. It’s the same story with people. If the taste is too salty you cannot eat the food. Or when you take too much sugar or too much fat, you are going to start to have problems. Therefore, it’s important to have this mindset of what could be going wrong with cannabis in terms of nutrients as well. By respecting what the cannabis needs, by delivering the right nutrients at the right moment, you stay in the safe zone.

Environmental Problems

Environmental problems means problems with temperature, humidity, light, and everything else that affects the area where the plants are living in. If you have too much heat, or if it’s too cold, or not enough light, that becomes an environmental issue for the plants. Of course, in nature, some days are super shiny and some days are super cold, but there is a limit to how much plants can take in. Controlling these environmental factors and making sure you are providing the best conditions for your plants will result in a better grow, rather than having no control over it.

Pest Problems

Pest problems are also very common. Pest infestations, particularly indoor, could be a real problem. Why? Because there’s no predator to this pest. Outdoors, some insects will come on the plant and feed on the pests and problem solved (read more here how insects can be friends in cannabis growing). However, indoors, you have to take care of working clean and making sure you don’t bring insects from outside. Insects can be on your shoes or on yourself, so it’s important to be clean and use separate clothes just for your grow room in order to preserve a pest-free environment. If you move inside other plants that previously stood in the yard, these plants almost certainly have some kind of insect on them and must stay separate from your cannabis. Insects can also come with soil, so making sure you get the right soil mixes where you know the origin is also of utmost importance.
