Ask regular cannabis users what they think about cannabis and sex, and you may get a variety of answers. Someone will say their sex life is much better with weed. Others will say their libido is affected after smoking. While the experience would be different for everyone, let’s also see what science has to say on the matter of cannabis and sexuality.

Using Cannabis Before Sex Can Increase Desire and Improve Orgasm

An online survey from 2023 collected answers from 811 sexually-active adults to assess the aphrodisiacal potential of cannabis. Over 80 percent of the survey respondents answered positively, claiming that cannabis use before engaging in a sexual intercourse increased their desire and enhanced orgasms. Slightly over 60% of respondents further said that marijuana heightened their experience when masturbating. More about the results of this survey, which was led by Denver-based sexologist Dr. Amanda Moser of East Carolina University, can be read in the Journal of Cannabis Research

Cannabis Before Sex Can Be Particularly Helpful to Women

According to some studies, over 90 percent of men report having regular orgasms during intercourse, in stark contrast with fewer than 50 percent among women. Researchers have named this phenomenon the ‘orgasm inequality gap’ and cannabis can aid in the efforts to close that gap!

“Women may be more likely to orgasm when using cannabis before sexual encounters, which could contribute to equity in the amount of sexual pleasure and satisfaction experienced by both women and men,” the research from Dr. Moser and her team says

Relaxed Effect from Cannabis Linked to Better Sex

Cannabis users have reported being more relaxed, both mentally and physically, which in turn leads them to have improved sexual experiences, according to the research. Surveying has also found that weed-enhanced senses of touch and taste, which are integral to the sexual act, may play an additional role in improving the intimate exchange between partners.

There Are No Fixed Rules on How to Use Weed for Sex

There is still so much more to learn about cannabis and sexuality. Each person may react differently to it. If you are aiming to try weed as an aphrodisiac or as a relaxant before engaging in sex, it is wise to pick strains that produce more energetic and stimulative effects. Classic strains such as Sour Diesel, Northern Lights, Granddaddy Purple, Green Crack, Blue Dream, Wedding Cake may all work well for arousal and having a more pleasant intercourse. Finding the right dosage that works for you personally is also important. Because you don’t want to get knocked out when you plan to get intimate with someone. Lastly, there are certain risks with edibles, so it’s better to avoid them. With a less ‘calculated’ effect on how it might kick, stronger edible products may hinder your ability to perform well.
