Rihanna's Fun Times with Weed

She comes from Barbados and she’s one of the most famous music stars in the world. The Caribbean Queen has amassed 14 number-one songs on the Billboard Hot 100 and has collected as many as nine Grammy statuettes along the way. Over the years, Rihanna has also never hidden her fondness for smoking weed. It’s only fair to pay her a tribute on the singer’s 36th birthday which falls today, February 20. Whether you wonder what her zodiac sign is, she is Pisces. And Pisces do want to indulge!

It must be stressful to handle the huge international success that has followed Rihanna ever since launching her career in the mid-2000s. Many times, Rihanna’s friend in need has been weed indeed.

Rihanna Made Her Debut at a Very Young Age

With over 250 million records sold worldwide, Rihanna is one of the coolest and most popular pop artists on the planet. RiRi rose to fame with the release of her debut album Music of the Sun, which featured earworms such as “Pon de Replay.” The singer was aged just 17 at the time of her first album release. The follow-up record, A Girl Like Me was issued in 2006 and it merely cemented her status as a world famous performer.

It’s been eight years since Rihanna’s last album release, Anti in 2016. But it’s understandable if RiRi wants to take some time off. The singer recently also had two children together with her spouse, hip hop artist A$AP Rocky.

Rihanna’s on and off relationship with marijuana has not gone unnoticed over the years. She has made quite some headlines, either wearing provocative clothes with marijuana prints or being kicked out of a hotel because of trying out herbs.

Rihanna has credited Mariah Carrey and Celine Dion as her greatest influences, impersonating the two divas while growing up.

Another idol she admires is Bob Marley. “He’s one of my favorite artists of all time - he really paved the way for every other artist out the Caribbean,” the singer told Contactmusic.com back in the day. She would often see Marley on local television as a child.

In her Los Angeles mansion she would even built a lavish shrine honoring the King of Reggae. She has also regularly performed two of his greatest hits, “Is This Love” and “Redemption Song” during her concert tours.

Caribbean Queen with a Taste for Fun

While we cannot be certain if Rihanna still indulges in weed after giving birth to her second son last year, we can be sure she has had the time of her life. Year after year Ri has given the world wild stories about her use of cannabis.

The first big story is from 2010 when the singer was kicked out and banned from a hotel in Barbados allegedly for toking marijuana. The smoke set off the fire alarm.

A year later, in 2011, Rihanna made some bold fashion statements making it clear that she garners a special connection with the herb. Mesh shirts and renditions of the American flag with fan leaves instead of stars were pretty telltale choices.

When Rihanna released her sixth studio album Talk That Talk that same year, the album cover featured her face in black and white with smoke coming out of her lips. Weed toking scenes are also seen in the video of “We Found Love,” the album’s greatest hit.

But probably the stoniest of all stories, the one that nobody will ever forget, is that time at Coachella, in 2012, when Rihanna rolled a blunt on her bodyguard’s bald head. “I’m crazy, and I don’t pretend to be anything else,” she tweeted afterwards.

In 2014, RiRi marked 420 wearing an exciting bathing suit on her way to the beach. The black mesh bodysuit she sported had marijuana leaf motifs over the nipples, leaving very little to the imagination.

There were rumors around the same time that the music icon is going to launch her own cannabis brand. It would have had the perfect brand name: MaRihanna. But Ri’s cannabis line never came to be. Instead the singer has since launched a beauty brand called Fenty Beauty, which features a sexy line of lingerie Savage X Fenty. A brand that honors her full birth name Robyn Rihanna Fenty.

Rihanna first admitted that she is trying to cut down on weed some eight years ago, while performing a concert in Detroit. “I gotta say one thing: I smell some weed!” she exclaimed after catching the familiar scent in the air.

“I’ve been trying to be a good girl though, I try not to smoke,” she went on. “I’m corny, I’m boring!”, she surprised the audience with her statement.

The wild days may be behind, at least for now. Nevertheless, the legendary Rihanna has certainly given the cannabis community some great stories to cherish, apart from awesome music and the entertainment she delivers every time she is up on stage!

Many happy returns of the day, Rihanna!
