Cannabis Study to Give Free Seltzers for 2,000 Recruits

Up to 2,000 people will be recruited by a group of THC beverage companies to drink free cannabis seltzers instead of alcohol. The only thing they are asked in exchange for the free drinks? To report back on their experience, as part of a larger study that seeks to explore market opportunities around infused beverages.
Alcohol sales are undergoing a decline, while consumers are becoming more curious about trying out healthier drink options. These trends have inspired MoreBetter, a leader in Real-World-Data collection and research, to launch a ‘groundbreaking study’ that aims to understand the impact of THC-infused beverages on alcohol consumption, mood and everyday life.
As part of the study, a call was launched earlier this month to hire 2,000 qualified participants who will provide daily feedback for three weeks on their infused beverage and alcohol drinking patterns. Participants will also do self-assessments on their overall quality of life.
A Number of Cannabis Beverage Brands Are Sponsoring the Study
Cannabis brands who will provide drinks for the observational research include BRĒZ, Nowadays, Cantrip, Death Row Records’s Do It Fluid, Iconic Tonics, Hippie Water, and STIIIZY, among others. The study is focused on THC-infused seltzer, however, MoreBetter said it will also investigate 750ml bottles used as mixers, dry powder mixes, and 1.5-2 oz ‘shots’ to gauge different types of doses and infused drinkable options.
"Our mission has always been to provide a healthier, more mindful way to enjoy social moments, and we believe this study will help us better understand and validate the positive impact of our product," said Aaron Nosbisch, Founder and CEO at BRĒZ, one of the study sponsors.
"By collecting consumer-reported outcomes from thousands of consumers, over a multi-week basis, we provide brands and industry advocates with the Real World Data they need to understand how infused beverages are impacting consumers' quality of life," said in a press release MoreBetter COO, Tyler Dautrich.
The research initiative from MoreBetter comes at a time when the hemp and marijuana sectors closely watch consumer behavior around cannabinoids and alcohol.
Estimations suggest that alcohol is contributing to nearly 100,000 cancer cases and about 20,000 cancer deaths each year, making it the third leading preventable cause of cancer in the U.S. right after tobacco and obesity, according to the Office of the Surgeon General.
Understandably, alcohol is a common and popular social lubricant - the life of the party. Risks for cancer are significantly higher with frequent, excessive, every-day use. Those in the risk category may benefit from changing habits and opting for healthier drinkable products. And some of those products just might be cannabinoid-infused beverages.
