Is Ohio Where You Can Buy the Most Weed in a Day?

As Ohio is on a good track to become one of the most serious cannabis markets in the country, the state regulator has decided to bump up on the quantity of weed that you can legally buy in a single day. That is, if you are of legal age and you’re an Ohioan!
Ohio Removes One Ounce Daily Weed Limit and Ups to 2.5 Ounces for Legal Recreational Sales
Being able to buy 2.5 ounces of weed every single day is a pretty decent amount of weed you can get in a day. Who will be able to enjoy this benefit of the legal market? Ohioans! State officials are confident in their decision to move away from the one ounce per day maximum. They say there is enough weed for both recreational and medicinal cannabis users.
A recent announcement from the Ohio Division of Cannabis Control (DCC) said that its priority “continues to be ensuring medical marijuana patients have adequate supply and maintain their medical marijuana card, and the Division knows that licensees share that priority.”
The new limit policy will be active from June 4, 2025. “The market has demonstrated the ability to support both medical marijuana patients and non-medical consumers alike,” the DCC said in its announcement.
The increased threshold for individual daily cannabis transactions will only apply for cannabis in dried flower form, for smoking and vaporization. The non-medical limit for other marijuana products remains 15,000 mg of total THC content.
One ounce of weed or 28 grams is the standard daily amount that recreational users can access in dispensaries around California, Colorado or Arizona. In New Mexico, the daily cap is 2 ounces, while Michigan is a rare example where it already is 2.5 ounces. Regulators in some states, such as New York, do not have a daily limit specification, however.
Where Can You Buy Legal Cannabis for Recreational Use in Ohio?
The era of legal adult-use marihuana in Ohio took off with 98 active legal dispensaries. Since 2024, this number has climbed to over 120 dual-use cannabis stores, where plant-based medicines are available for both recreational users and medical patients. The state is in a process where it will grant additional licenses for new dispensaries.
The most significant number of cannabis stores can be found in Franklin, Cuyahoga and Hamilton counties. Users can choose from a variety of local brands. These include Buckeye Relief, Klutch Cannabis, Certified Cultivators, Grow Ohio (Butterfly Effect), Firelands Scientific and Riviera Creek, among others.
As it matures, Ohio’s market is projected to surpass a $2 billion figure in yearly profits, according to Headset cannabis data. At $2.1 billion in annual sales, Ohio could trail right behind Michigan and California, effectively becoming one of the top three U.S. markets. It only makes sense why the Ohio state regulator wants to push the threshold of daily weed allowed in retail. Definitely a serious contender in the top three!
