Some celebrities have been very open about their views on medicinal cannabis and how it has helped them personally. Many have even launched their cannabis businesses.

Cannabis has a long history in traditional medicine. Many cite the healing properties of cannabis as helping alleviate the symptoms of Parkinson's disease, epilepsy, and other pains.

However, the limited research on cannabis means we still have big questions to answer about its purported medicinal properties. Always discuss potential treatments with your doctor before trying out any alternative therapies.

Here are some famous people who publicly declared their support for and belief in medicinal cannabis.

Whoopi Goldberg used her vape pen for glaucoma and menstrual pain.

In 2016, Whoopi Goldberg partnered with the founder of Om edibles, Maya Elisabeth, to create Whoopi & Maya, a line of medical cannabis products including bath soaks, balms, cacao bars and herbal tinctures.

Whoopi advocates using her vape pen to treat her glaucoma-induced headaches, saying that it replaces "handfuls of Advil" previously used to manage the condition.

"I took a sip. It was beautiful. And my pen and I have been together ever since."

Tommy Chong used cannabis as a treatment for prostate cancer.

Tommy Chong of "Cheech and Chong," fame the comedy stoner duo, revealed to the press that he used cannabis oil to treat his stage one prostate cancer. He said he quit smoking the drug for health reasons and took the oil at night. Chong was declared cancer-free after a year; however, it did come back, and when it did, he used a mixture of radiation and high-CBD oil treatments to beat it.

Morgan Freeman uses cannabis for fibromyalgia.

Freeman said he wants cannabis legalized and has found personal relief from his fibromyalgia pain by using it. Freeman has been open about his views on cannabis ever since a 2003 interview with The Guardian where he proclaimed, "Never give up the ganja".

In a further interview, Morgan stated, "Marijuana has many useful uses. I have fibromyalgia pain in this arm, and the only thing that offers relief is Marijuana. They're talking about kids who have grand mal seizures, and they've discovered that Marijuana eases that down to where these children can have a life. That right there, to me, says, 'Legalize it across the board!'"

Pete Davidson smokes weed to help with Chron's Disease.

SNL comedy star Pete Davidson recently told Howard Stern that he smokes weed to combat some side effects of Crohn's disease. This chronic inflammatory syndrome affects one's gastrointestinal tract.

He explained, "I have Crohn's disease, so it helps more than you can imagine."Davidson said his Crohn's had caused him a lot of stomach pain, and his medications suppressed his appetite.

"Weed would be the only thing that would help me eat because my stomach would be in pain all day," he told High Times in 2016. "I wouldn't be able to do 'SNL' if I didn't smoke weed."

Lady Gaga used cannabis for hip pain.

As a result of rigorous nightly performances on her "Born This Way" tour, Lady Gaga had to undergo surgery to treat the damage caused to her cartilage. The surgery left her requiring the use of a wheelchair.

To manage her hip pain, Gaga turned to cannabis. She told Elvis Duran on the Z100 Morning Show that she used to smoke 15 to 20 joints a day.
