CBG May Reduce Anxiety

In what is one of the first trials on human subjects involving CBG, the minor cannabinoid has shown itself of having the potential to reduce anxiety and enhance memory, without the worry of  negative side-effects. Like THC and CBD,  Cannabigerol or CBG is considered to have therapeutic impacts, including possible anti-anxiety and antidepressant uses, although the clinical research in this area has so far been limited.

In a previous survey, 51% of participants who were using CBG reported doing so in an attempt to control anxiety. 78% claimed that it was more effective than orthodox anxiety medicines.

Now findings from a new clinical trial appear to support these claims, with CBG displaying efficacy in relieving anxiety and stress, as well as improving spoken memory in comparison to a placebo.

In the double-blind, placebo-controlled crossover field trial, the critical effects of CBG on anxiety, stress, and mood were investigated. It was also observed as to whether CBG produced any side effects or impairments to motor or cognitive function as is the case with other cannabinoids such as THC.

In total, 34 healthy participants were recruited for the study and given CBG tincture with less than 0.001 mg/g of THC and CBD.
Each of the participants underwent two test sessions, where they delivered ratings of stress, anxiety, mood, and personal drug effects.

What Did The Study Discover About CBG?

After the analysis was complete, the researchers discovered that CBG had a considerable effect on personal ratings of anxiety, portraying a 26.5% decrease in anxiety levels, as well as a considerable effect on self-reported stress ratings.

While the study did not reveal any antidepressant effects, CBG was found by the study authors to greatly improve verbal memory.
Were There any Side Effects From CBG? According to scores documented through the Driving under the Influence of Drugs (DRUID) app, CBG did not deliver any cognitive or motor deteriorations, while the parties conveyed no intoxicating results.

“Results of this trial indicate that 20 mg of hemp-derived CBG reduces subjective ratings of anxiety and stress in healthy cannabis-using adults in the absence of motor or cognitive impairment, intoxication, or other subjective drug effects, the authors conclude. CBG may represent a novel option to reduce stress and anxiety in healthy adults".
