In December 2024, during the MJ BizCon trade show in Las Vegas, plans were announced to merge three well-known cannabis brands: Barney's Farm, Sensi Seeds, and the American platform I Love Growing Marijuana (ILGM). The goal of this merger was to create a global giant in the cannabis genetics market. However, the merger ultimately did not come to fruition.

Plans to Create a Global Powerhouse

Sensi Seeds and Barney's Farm have been among the most significant Dutch seed banks for decades, with their seeds being distributed to growers worldwide since the 1980s. In contrast, ILGM is a California-based seed bank connected to a large online community of cannabis enthusiasts.

The intended merger of Barney's Farm, Sensi Seeds, and ILGM aimed to enhance their market influence while allowing each company to maintain its separate operations.

PowerPlant Inc.'s Unexpected Involvement

Unexpectedly, PowerPlant Inc., a company not mentioned in earlier documents, emerged during the merger discussions. Its involvement was not noted on the websites of the companies concerned, but it was supposed to be the main force driving the operation.

"Barney's Farm Genetics, a global leader in cannabis seed selection known for its unique and innovative varieties, confirmed today that, effective immediately, the company does not intend to finalize its merger with PowerPlant Inc., an organization whose stated mission is to find investors for highly profitable marijuana seed and genetics brands with enormous growth potential," Barney's Farm stated in a press release published on September 1st.

Payment Delays and Loss of Trust

According to its official website, PowerPlant Inc. describes itself as a leader in investing in and supporting cannabis seed brands. However, the company failed to meet its financial obligations, resulting in payment delays.

Derry Brett, the founder of Barney’s Farm, observed PowerPlant’s operations and decided to withdraw from the planned merger entirely
