Weed Vape Carts Explained

Cannabis vape carts are one of the most convenient methods for consuming concentrated cannabinoids. However, for beginners, the variety of options can be overwhelming.

What is a Vape Cart?

A weed pen requires a cart, which is a glass tube containing cannabis oil and an atomizer that heats and vaporizes the oil when connected to a battery. Carts are typically filled with various types of concentrates, such as THC oil or distillates. For beginners, pre-filled weed carts are usually the best choice.

To use a cart, you need a 510-thread battery, which connects to almost any weed cart. The battery powers the atomizer, allowing it to vaporize the oil, which is then inhaled through the mouthpiece.

The appearance of vape carts can vary based on the manufacturer, cost, size, and type of oil they contain. A high-quality oil should appear translucent and is often light gold or honey-like in color. You may also notice air bubbles in the liquid.

Weed carts are available in various sizes, with 1-gram and half-gram carts being the most common. Size refers to the amount of oil contained in the cart.

How to Spot a Damaged or Cheap Cart

Be wary of the following indicators, which may suggest a damaged or low-quality cart:
- Little to no movement of air bubbles
- Dark or brownish-black liquid
- A burnt, ashy taste or smell
- Thick oil that moves slowly
- Thin or watery weed oil

To avoid such issues, stick to purchasing from trusted retailers.

Weed Cart Terms

Several terms are often used interchangeably to describe weed carts. The phrase “dab carts” is sometimes used, although this is a misinterpretation of the term “dab.”

To clarify, you do not dab weed oils, distillates, or live resin carts because these products, while concentrated, have not been formulated into the semi-solid concentrates known as shatter and wax. Dabs refer specifically to these solid forms and are used in dab pens or e-nails designed for that purpose.

Weed Oil Options

Not all weed carts contain the same cannabinoids or are extracted from the same areas of the cannabis plant.

What cannabinoids can you find in your cart?

The term “weed cart” encompasses a broad range of oils. THC carts are the most popular choice, as THC is the main psychoactive compound in cannabis, known for inducing a high. The intensity of the high depends on the oil's concentration and quality, as well as your personal tolerance.

Delta 8 THC is another form that produces a milder high. Unlike delta 9 THC, which is derived directly from the cannabis plant, delta 8 is extracted from hemp-derived CBD.

There is also a growing market for other hemp-derived cannabinoids such as delta 10 THC, HHC, and THCP, each with distinct characteristics.

In contrast, vaping a CBD cart will not result in intoxication. However, CBD is popular for its soothing effects and has been shown to help reduce inflammation and alleviate pain.

THC, CBD, and Delta 8 Distillates

Distillates are produced by focusing on a specific cannabinoid through extraction. This could be THC, CBD, delta 10, or CBN. The distillation process creates potent oils with high purity levels—sometimes reaching up to 99%. However, this process can also result in the loss of minor cannabinoids and terpenes, which contribute to the flavor that many users expect from cannabis. To counter this, some manufacturers add terpenes back into the oil after extraction to restore the desired flavor.

Full-Spectrum Carts

If you seek a cannabinoid and terpene profile that closely resembles that of the original cannabis plant, consider full-spectrum carts. These carts contain a wide range of natural blends and terpenes rather than focusing on a single cannabinoid.

Live Resin Carts

Live resin is one of the most well-known full-spectrum extracts. This concentrated oil retains the plant's natural terpenes and flavonoids during extraction, resulting in a product that should taste like the cannabis from which it originates. However, live resin carts tend to be more expensive than other types of carts.

Many users report that vaping offers a unique experience that differs from other consumption methods.
