The Perfect Grow Episode 8, Trimming and Curing
This is the last episode of our video series on growing cannabis for beginners, The Perfect Grow. In previous episodes, we looked at different aspects of growing cannabis indoors. This new episode is about trimming and curing plants.
Season 2 of our series The Perfect Grow comes to an end with this episode. This second season covered many topics. The cultivation specialist showed us how to choose seeds, substrate, and fertilizers and how to set up and automate a grow tent. In episode 7, Max answered the main questions that beginner growers ask themselves.
Trimming
Trimming refers to the stripping of the leaves of the cannabis plant. The goal of this step is to separate the branches and leaves from the flowers or cannabis heads, which contain the active ingredients, cannabinoids and also terpenes that define the smell and taste of weed and interact with cannabinoids such as THC and CBD. Trichomes are the glands, found on the heads and in lesser quantities on the small leaves, which contain cannabinoids and terpenes.
There are machines for trimming weed but they are large and expensive. most growers use scissors. Max advises not to touch the buds too much with your hands so not to lose the trichomes.
The small, resinous leaves also contain trichomes but in small quantities. They can be used to make hashish or prepare food.
Curing
Curing is the last step before the second season. After drying and trimming, you will need to store the weed for several weeks in airtight glass jars. You will need to open the lid for a few minutes every day. The goal is to eliminate the chlorophyll and improve the organoleptic qualities of the weed.
