Pink cannabis strains include Pink Berry, Pink Kush, and Pink Mango. Different strains showcase their pink colouration in various ways. In some, the calyxes are pink, while in others, only the pistils turn pink. Additionally, some strains feature pink and purple hues in their fan and sugar leave

Why Is some Cannabis Pink?

The pink colouration of cannabis is primarily influenced by two factors: genetics and the environment. A plant's genetic makeup determines its potential colouration, but how that genetic potential is expressed is also affected by the growing conditions. The pinks, purples, reds, and blues found in cannabis are produced by pigments called anthocyanins. These pigments are naturally produced by plants and may serve several purposes. There is evidence that suggests purple colouration may act as a natural antifreeze, protecting plants in colder weather. Additionally, darker colours may help shield plants from harsh UV exposure as they mature.

What Are the Effects of Pink Weed?

The effects of pink weed are comparable to those of standard cannabis; however, some users claim that it offers a unique high. There is limited evidence to support this assertion. While pink cannabis contains higher levels of anthocyanins that contribute to its distinctive colouration, this does not necessarily mean it results in a more potent high.

How Do You Grow Pink Cannabis?

While each plant is unique, there are several steps you can take to encourage the growth of vibrant pink buds:

Genetics

Start with a strain known for producing colourful buds. Choose strains that are recognised for delivering pink buds, not just those that show pink hues in their leaves. Occasionally, pink strains may appear vividly colourful during growth but turn into standard green buds after harvest and trimming.

Temperatures

Cooler climates tend to enhance anthocyanin production in some plants, so try to maintain a cooler environment in your grow room, especially at night. For purple strains, aim for nighttime temperatures below 70°F (21°C). However, ensure that temperatures do not drop below 65°F (18°C). While cannabis can tolerate some cooler temperatures, going too low may cause more harm than good.

Lights

There is some evidence suggesting that abundant sunlight may contribute to the development of leaf colour. Investing in high-quality grow lights is advisable. Providing your plants with plenty of light throughout their growth cycle not only promotes strong development but may also enhance the intensity of their colours. However, be careful to avoid stressing the plants, which can occur if they receive too much light. Keep plants several inches away from grow lights to prevent plant burn and overheating stress.
