Patients can now Invest in UK Medicinal Cannabis.

British cannabis company Grow Lab Organics (GLO) is collaborating with cannabis patient group, Cancard, to launch the Uk's first 'community-owned' medicinal cannabis facility.

Having already secured £1m in seed funding, GLO is looking to raise £5m by allowing patients to invest in the company for a minimum buy-in of £100 through a community fundraising platform Seedrs.

GLO has successfully acquired a conditional licence to produce medicinal cannabis products on the Isle of Man, where the Government introduced its regulatory framework in 2021 to allow companies to grow, manufacture, distribute and export cannabis products.

Once fully operational, the GLO facility will house 30 cultivation rooms – of which 22 will be 200 square metre flowering rooms and six drying rooms – producing several unique cannabis strains.

"When we began the journey, we recognised the importance of having investors who share our vision and values. We are committed to enabling the medicinal cannabis community, which sits at the heart of what we do, to have a voice and share in the opportunity as we build our facility". GLO Spokesperson

According to a poll by Cancard in 2021, most of those surveyed expressed the desire to find a way to benefit from the sector.
Cancard represents over 70,000 people, and one of the most well-received suggestions was access to a community-owned cultivation opportunity, with 91% in firm favour.

"This was an important aspect of patient needs. They felt they had been involved in the progression of this industry for years and were being left behind; there was no way for them to get involved." Cancard Spokesperson

Cancard members were given priority to purchase company shares and then open to the general public 48 hours later.

Investors will receive a share of any profits and a say in how the business is run. With current UK laws, this is as close as many of us will get to "growing our own"—more than 200 people invested in GLO in the first week following the launch.

The enterprise is a great way to get more people involved in the cannabis industry who are not part of the established 'big cannabis' investment community. It will allow patients to feel invested and involved and is a more social way of running a business.
