In a video captured at her performance in Amsterdam earlier this week. The singer was seen mid-show lighting a big joint and inhaling on it during a break in the show.
Praising the 'wondrous' drug, the 26-year-old singer told fans she had cut down on drinking alcohol because she prefers smoking the substance.
The Born This Way hitmaker revealed cannabis has helped her approach her music from a 'spiritual' perspective.
She was quoted as telling The Sun newspaper: 'I want you to know it has totally changed my life and I've really cut down on drinking.
'It has been a totally spiritual experience for me with my music. It's like saying everybody needs to take a breath and it's going to be OK.'
Paying tribute to the 'medical wonders' of marijuana, Mother Monster said she thought Amsterdam was the 'appropriate place' to tell her Little Monsters about her feelings for the drug.
Of course, in the Netherlands smoking the substance has been essentially decriminalised with the possession and purchase of cannabis tolerated in small amounts.
While some fans appreciated her honesty, many were left unimpressed by her antics.
One fan group tweeted: 'Stop Smoking Marijuana Gaga. No Drugs Just Art. @ladygaga Stop pleaser!!' (sic)
Another Twitter user posted a link adding: 'What a role model to kids ey?'
John Jolly, Chief Executive of the Blenheim CDP who offer help for young people struggling with drug and alcohol addiction issues, said that Gaga's smoking on stage is likely to exacerbate an already growing problem.
Mr Jolly told MailOnline: 'I think it's always unhelpful when people in the public eye of a particular influence are seen engaging in drug use, particularly becasue cannabis use is a significant problem for people under 25 in the UK.
'The predominant drug we are dealing with in our treatment centres for people under 25 years old is cannabis so it's particularly unhelpful when things like this happen.'
Mr Jolly added that he would like to invite Lady Gaga to visit one of the treatment centres to see exactly what help Blenheim CDP offer those struggling with addiction issues.
Gaga also joked during the Amsterdam performance that she was going to talk to US President Barack Obama in a bid to make marijuana legal in America.
The singer revealed she tested 'borderline positive' for Lupus in 2010 might well use the drug for medicinal reasons.
The eccentric singer has previously admitted to dabbling in hard drugs in the past, and explained she is now an occasional user of marijuana.
She said during a discussion with The View panel in 2011: 'I am a little bit part of the green club'.
But the New Yorker - whose real name is Stefani Germanotta - explained how she stopped using hard drugs when her father called her out.
She said: ‘My dad was like, "I know what you're doing, and just so you know, I did it and I lost every friend and everything that I ever had while I did it."
'He shared with me his life story and his struggle, so that was what ultimately changed my life. Honestly it was the best thing that happened. I never went back.'
Addressing her fans, Gaga said: ‘There's a way to be recreational and be young and rebellious and have a good time and not hurt yourself.'
Meanwhile, the singer has been involved in a public feud with Madonna, after the Queen of Pop reportedly claimed Gaga's song Born This Way was a rip-off of her classic track Express Yourself.
But Madonna took steps to mend it on Saturday while on stage in Atlantic City. She dedicated her track Masterpiece to the younger singer and hinted she is ready to put their bad blood behind her.
'You wanna know something? I love her. I love her. I do love her. Imitation is the highest form of flattery,' she said.
'One day, very soon, we're going to be on stage together. Just you wait. You think I'm kidding? I love Lady Gaga.'
