A NEW Mills man who tried to buy Ketamine & cannabis over the internet never received the drug because it was intercepted
In March, UK Border Agency staff intercepted a parcel addressed to Daniel Terence Maney, of Albion Road.
Inside they found 30 ten millilitre vials of liquid Ketamine, High Peak Magistrates Court heard.
As a result, Derbyshire Police were informed and carried out a drugs search at Maney's home address, prosecutor Helen Griffiths said.
During the search, officers found two small bags of cannabis along with another separate small quantity of cannabis and a larger amount of the drug, weighing 10.82 grams.
Maney, 23, told police he had ordered the Ketamine and cannabis from an internet website. The cannabis was jointly funded by himself and a friend and was for their use.
Maney admitted possession a Class B drug, attempting to possess a Class C drug and attempting to fraudulently evade duty. In total, 11.81 grams of cannabis were found at his address.
Annis Rowlands, defending, said: "Not only has he entered his guilty plea but when the police came to his address to execute a drugs warrant where the cannabis was discovered he couldn't have been more helpful.
"The Ketamine doesn't get to him because the parcel addressed to him was intercepted by Border officials.
"The third charge is unusual and Mr Maney doesn't really have any option but to plead guilty to this offence.
"The ethos is if people buy things abroad and bring them into this country they have to pay VAT and import duty.
"He will lose his good character.
"He is self-employed and has made a success of himself.
"I would suggest that he might have received a drugs caution but for the complications of the Ketamine offence."
Maney was fined £233 for possession of the cannabis and ordered to pay £85 costs and a £15 surcharge. No separate penalty was made for the Ketamine or fraudulently evading duty charges.
Magistrates also ordered forfeiture and destruction of the drugs.
