Hundreds of kilos of cannabis were discovered after more than 20 police officers swooped on industrial units in Shropshire.

Members of West Mercia Police's Serious and Organised Crime unit raided premises on the Adderley Road Industrial Estate in Market Drayton and arrested a number of men.

Police have declined to confirm where the raid took place and how many men were arrested.

They said ‘hundreds of kilos' of the class B drug were seized, which has a street value of more than £3,000 per kilo.

Members of the UK Border Agency were also involved in the crackdown last Friday.

Detective Chief Inspector Dave Andrews, of West Mercia Police, said: "We have been working with the UK Border Agency on this major operation and more than 20 officers took part in the warrants on Friday.

"We are pleased with the amount of cannabis seized, but our inquiries continue into this illegal operation and there is still much work to do.

"If anyone has any information about suspicious activity at the Adderley Road Industrial Estate, then I urge them to get in touch.

"All those arrested have been released on police bail while investigations continue."
