How to Avoid the Munchies
Weed can interfere with the signals in your brain making you believe you are hungry when you are not. Many people, like cancer patients, search out strains that will make them hungry as treatments like chemotherapy can make their appetites disappear. However, those trying to eat healthier may not want to get the munchies and be eating everything in sight.
If you smoke regularly too then the munchies can become a real problem. Extra calories equals weight gain and can lead to heartburn, indigestion, and poor sleep. So, how do you stop them?Â
Plan your mealsÂ
If you don't have a mealtime schedule, you’re more likely to wanna snack before bedtime. Add a bit of cannabis to that, and the urge to snack will only be increased.
Schedule your breakfast, lunch and dinner as well as snacks in between, and stick to it. If you’re satisfied after that then you’ll be less likely to give in to the munchies.
Stay busy
Our minds can wander when you get high. If you do start focussing on food and the munchies you need to distract your brain with something else. Train yourself to focus on another activity when the thought of snacking crosses your mind. Whether that's gaming, drawing, painting or reading.
Brush your teeth
Try brushing your teeth or using mouthwash. Non-minty flavours taste bad when you try eating them straight after brushing your teeth so there is less chance of you wanting to raid the cookie jar.
Vary your strain
Whether or not you get the munchies depends largely on the strain of cannabis you’re consuming. Seek out strains that are known for making you less hungry, this includes High CBD strains and High-THCV Sativa strains
Remove temptation
If you know you can't stop yourself from binging, don’t buy any junk food, delete your delivery apps, whatever it takes to keep those calories away. You can also switch up by having cupboards full of healthy snacks and foods.
ExerciseÂ
Get a workout in before indulging. Find an activity you enjoy, do it and you will burn enough calories to justify your snack session later.
Get Creative
If you can’t beat your weed munchies, use them to your advantage.Â
Wait ’til you’ve had a few hits and then whip up something creative in the kitchen. Whatever it is it will be more delicious when stoned.
