Music star and body, positivity icon Lizzo, is helping raise awareness about false eyelashes made with animal products and shows her fans and followers that she chooses biodegradable lashes made from hemp-derived fibre.

False eyelashes can be made from several materials, including plastic fibre, silk, human hair and mink fur. So, animal rights campaigners are looking to change how we glam up.

What is the advice from PETA regarding false eyelashes? "Stick to wearing your fur. And if you want to glam up, always choose synthetic eyelash and eyebrow extensions."

Hemp looks to be a great alternative. It already has a long history of versatile fibres being used for a range of products, including rope, grain bags, building materials, clothing, insulation, biofuels, plastic composites, insulation, body care products, and health foods.

When Lizzo attended the 74th Primetime Emmy Awards last autumn, her hemp-derived eyelashes caught the most attention on social media.

For the Emmys, Lizzo's Glam Squad chose lashes made from vegan plant fibres that are 90% biodegradable and available at mainstream US stores, including Sephora and Ulta.

The lashes are from a Toronto-based company, Velour Beauty, which launched the lashes in 2022 and offers three different styles: natural, whole and glamour. If that isn't enough, the company claim that the lashes can be worn up to 20 times.

It's believable that Lizzo supports hemp if we are to assume, as it appears on her social media, that she is an advocate of all things hemp and cannabis. Like other stars in the public eye, like Rhianna and Snoop, Lizzo looks pretty open about her usage.
