Space Capsule Carrying Cannabis Seeds Explodes

The Nyx space capsule, which was carrying cannabis seeds, crashed into the Pacific Ocean, aborting a project intended to test cannabis in outer space by studying the behaviour of genetic material beyond Earth.
The seeds were launched aboard a space capsule from the Vulcan Centaur rocket by the Celestis company. The mission failed on July 9 when the Nyx capsule, carrying cannabis seeds, the ashes and DNA from 166 people, bacteria, and other biological materials, crashed into the ocean.
The cannabis seeds were part of several biological samples meant to be exposed to space conditions for at least three years in lunar orbit before returning to Earth. This failed mission, dubbed Enterprise Flight, aimed to test the effects of space gravity on DNA, bacteria, and seeds. Additionally, it served as "a cosmic tomb" for the ashes of 166 individuals, whose remains have become the closest thing to stardust that humanity can aspire to. Unfortunately, none of these experiments reached the Moon.
The upper stage of the rocket did not achieve the necessary speed for the correct trajectory, causing the Nyx capsule to re-enter Earth's atmosphere, where it disintegrated and fell into the ocean, undermining the efforts and investments made.
Why Send Cannabis Seeds into Space?
There is very little public information regarding the objective of sending these seeds to orbit the Moon for three years. The company has not disclosed the exact purpose of the cannabis shipment, leading some media outlets to speculate that the seeds might have been subjected to radiation in the lunar orbit. One could wonder where those seeds are now. Hopefully, they have landed on an island and are thriving in a new life, far from the humans who took them on such a long journey when they could have been planted in their backyards.
