CFL LIGHT DISTANCE
I have a small marijuana garden 60 x 60cm, that I am lighting with 300 watt and a 150 watt compact fluorescent (CFL) bulb. Everything is going well.

How far should the lights be from the plants? They are seedlings, about 2 weeks old and will be put outside as soon as weather permits.

The CFLs should be kept at enough of a distance from the plants so the light spreads to illuminate the garden as evenly as possible and all the plants are well lit. For best results you should use a bell reflector or handmade heavy-duty aluminum foil reflectors. These help direct the light downward towards the garden rather than the ceiling or walls. The perimeter of the garden should be painted flat white or lined with highly reflective material.
The lamps have an input of 450 watts, which will support fast growth. You can keep the bottom of the bulbs 30cm from the top of the plant canopy and get excellent growth. Make sure that you give the garden a constant supply of carbon dioxide (CO2) during the lighted period by ventilating the space using a fan blowing in plenty of fresh air. If the garden was to be more permanent I would say that you should use a CO2 system using a tank regulated by a parts per million (ppm) meter.
