Wilby Smith, 49, of Gors Avenue, Mayhill, admitted possessing the Class B drug after officers found it when they searched his home.
The court was told Smith's home was raided by police on Friday, June 7 and when officers asked if he had any drugs inside, he took them to the kitchen and showed them a container which had five lots of cannabis inside.
In his police interview, Smith told officers he had been using the drug for 30 years.
The defendant said the amount found in the house was for his own personal use only.
Smith had previously received a police caution for possession of cannabis.
John Clayton, defending for Smith, told the court his client had pleaded guilty to the offence at the first opportunity.
Magistrates fined Smith £105 and told him to pay £85 in costs and a £20 victim surcharge.
