Can Weed Help you Study?

Some cannabis connoisseurs feel more focused and productive after consuming or smoking weed, especially when carrying out tasks such as studying, even though there is limited scientific evidence that cannabis acts upon the brain in such a way.

Studies have shown that cannabis damages our ability to think, organize, and pay attention and is generally not associated with productivity or motivation.

Weed companies promote the idea that different strains of cannabis can boost productivity and enhance clarity. Again, however, there are no clinical studies to prove this.

The idea that cannabis could promote productivity or focus is unlikely; in tests, it consistently proved to have the opposite effect. Most of the research on cannabis and motivation shows no effect; if anything, it offers reduced motivation.

However, cannabis may induce a secondary effect, where it may indirectly help improve focus on some tasks by temporarily relieving physical or mental pain. Feeling better may also cause someone to experience an increase in motivation and focus.

"Someone's perception can't be called incorrect. After consuming cannabis, a person may have more energy or experience euphoria. Even if it is only temporary, they may be feeling better. Cannabis is not unique in this response; everyday drugs and stimulants like coffee can have a similar effect.

Using cannabis to improve focus may still work for some people because drugs can affect people differently.

However, there is still much that is not fully understood about the effects of cannabis use, and due to its illegal status, it is challenging to carry out cannabis research. Formal research means getting the Drug Enforcement Agency to approve a study and ensure the drug is sufficiently controlled and secured.

Even if it became easier to study the effects of cannabis, it still seems unlikely that the drug could promote a better attention span or motivation. Even though anecdotally, some may swear that weed helps them get more stuff done, as far as science is convinced, weed is a hurdle to productivity. So if you want it to help you get straight A's, you probably should save it as a treat after you finish studying.
