SOURCE: www.rawstory.com AUTHOR: Stephen C. Webster Although it's not yet exactly legal to do so just yet, a group of Coloradans kicked off the state's first adults only marijuana club on New Year's Eve, just in time for the year's biggest party. Club 64, operating in Denver, was named after Amendment 64, which legalized marijuana possession and cultivation in the state. Despite the legalization measure, clubs and retail sales are still under discussion by lawmakers who've yet to firm up the rules on how to fully implement marijuana legalization. Smoking in public is specifically forbidden by the new law. Although they were well aware that they were getting ahead of themselves, the proprietors of Club 64 went ahead on Monday and charged "members" a one-time fee for the marijuana-flavored event at a coffee shop off Interstate 160, according to The Denver Post. Organizers insisted no sales of the drug were taking place and no arrests were made. They served Cheetos and Goldfish as snacks, according to The Associated Press - a nod to Gov. John Hickenlooper (D), who warned marijuana enthusiasts after Election Day, "Don't break out the Cheetos or Goldfish too quickly." Marijuana is still illegal under federal law, but President Barack Obama has said the Department of Justice has "bigger fish to fry" than adults consenting to use marijuana.
