As a first-time grower, the very idea of converting a room and incurring the associated costs can be an overwhelming and arduous task. Especially if you do not own the property where you are growing. Grow Tents have been around for decades and are the easiest way for a beginner grower to set up a discreet and low-cost growing space at home. In this article, I provide 10 reasons why you should consider using grow tents for cannabis cultivation.

Affordable Indoor Cannabis Cultivation Starts with a Grow Tent

Numerous brands offer grow tents designed for indoor cultivation, which is advantageous because you can purchase a tent without incurring significant expenses. Grow tents measuring 1.2 meters in size typically cost as low as 120 euros, making them ideal for growers with a limited budget. If you're looking for an even more affordable option, consider lightweight tents with thinner tent covers. They do a great job and take hardly any time and effort to set up!

Easy Setup and Take Down  for Your Marihuana Grow Space

What I love about working with grow tents indoors is that they are straightforward to assemble. Once the metal frame is built, the cover can be placed over it, taking 20-30 minutes at most. Compare that to the amount of labour and time it takes to convert a spare room, combined with drilling and potentially removing part of the walls to make space for your intake and outtake fans.

Grow tents are convenient when it comes to setting them up and taking them down again, without the concern of having to fill in and plaster over constructed spare rooms. Even more so in an emergency, such as a scheduled visit from a landlord!

The Ideal Drying Environment for Your Cannabis Harvest

One of the easiest ways to create a temperature-controlled drying room once you have harvested your cannabis plants, is to use a grow tent. All you need to do is ensure that you have an extractor fan connected to a carbon filter and keep the vents located at the base of the tent open.

You do not need a large-sized tent, and for a home grower harvesting between 2 and 8 plants, a 1m x 1m x 2m tent is perfect. You can easily hang a drying net inside the tent, allowing the buds to have access to plenty of air and dry out over a 10-14-day period.

Finding the Perfect Grow Tent Size for Any Plant Count

The size of the grow tent will depend on the number of plants you plan to grow. A great starting point for a first-time grower is to cultivate 4-6 plants inside a 1.2-square-meter tent. I would avoid anything smaller than a 0.8m x 0.8m x 1m-sized tent, unless you are only growing a couple of plants inside for your first attempt.

Grow tents range in size from 0.6m x 0.6m x 1m to 2.4m x 2.4m, accommodating plant counts between 18 and 24 plants for large-scale grows. Autoflowering plants do not require much space, and MSNL recommends that autoflowers be grown to a height of 60cm to 120cm. Don't be concerned if your autos do not grow tall; they are naturally much shorter than photoperiods and yield around 50-100g per plant.

Using Grow Tents for Cannabis Vegetation

If you want to produce more crops at home every year, buy a smaller-sized tent for the vegetation stage. The idea is to have a space where your seedlings or clones can be kept under an 18/6 light cycle, so when you harvest the flowering tent, you can immediately transfer the plants and be ready to harvest within 8-10 weeks. The vegetation tent does not need to be large. If you prefer the idea of a perpetual harvest, consider using a vegetation tent that is 0.8m x 0.8m x 1m, and a flowering tent that is 1.2m x 1.2m x 1.8m.

Grow Tents Can Be Taken Down Quickly

Taking down a grow tent is not difficult. Once you have removed your grow light, carbon filter, extractor, and ducting, disassembling the tent will take between 10 and 15 minutes. You can put the tent away without it taking up much space or causing inconvenience, and no one would ever know that you had a tent there in the first place. Having to repair a converted room requires DIY skills, plastering, and can be a messy job, which is another superb reason why tents are the ultimate choice for an indoor grower.

Starting Clones and Seedlings in a Sterile Cannabis Grow Tent

Perpetual harvests are the most practical way to keep a flowering room full after every harvest, which is why grow tents are perfect for feminized cannabis seeds or cannabis clones. Even if you do not plan on a perpetual harvest, growing tents can be optimal for keeping mother plants inside or rooting clones in a propagator. Grow tents are clean, sterile, and can be easily cleaned and maintained with minimal effort and expense. You can also use a low-powered grow light inside, such as a low-powered LED or a T5 compact fluorescent.

Grow Tents vs. Permanent Marihuana Grow Spaces

I encourage a home grower to convert their attic, cellar, basement, or a spare bedroom, provided they own the property. However, a first-time grower with no building experience may struggle to convert a spare room, especially when it comes to creating an area for the vents to exit.

Older properties may have thin walls, and you do not want to find out the hard way that knocking through walls can cause more damage and inconvenience than initially anticipated. Your neighbours may also wonder what you are up to, and even complain about the level of noise in the process.

Airtight and Highly Reflective: Optimizing Light and Environment

Over the years, I have converted rooms using reflective mylar, but there is no need when growing tents will do the same job. Grow tents are highly reflective inside and are designed to provide an air-tight growing environment once all your equipment is fitted. Another advantage of using a grow tent indoors is the fact that the outside is black and can be easily hidden from a bedroom window.

The Best Indoor Cultivation Solution for Renters and Tenants

A large percentage of growers rent from landlords, so they do not have the luxury of knocking a wall through, drilling holes, or making ducting in the ceiling or wall space. If you are renting, a grow tent grow space is the most practical method for creating a discreet, easy-to-clean environment that can be assembled or disassembled within half an hour.

The only downside of renting is that you may be required to undergo an inspection or, at the end of your rental contract, demonstrate to the landlord that the property is in good condition and not damaged in any way. This is why grow tents are well-suited for renters.

My Final Thoughts

If you want to set up a grow room quickly and efficiently without breaking the bank, then grow tents are perfect for you. Online, you can order a tent or a complete grow tent and have it delivered to your home within a few days. For growers with the space, why not invest in multiple tents that can be used for vegetation, flowering, and drying your crop after harvest? Grow tents are an excellent starting point for beginner-level growers, as they are easy to clean, set up, and store away after use.
