A ST CLEARS student used cannabis to help her eat, a court heard.
Appearing before Llanelli magistrates last Wednesday, Sandra Ann Dix, 39, of Station Road admitted possessing 0.7 grams of herbal cannabis on November 25.
Prosecuting, Gerald Neave said police officers had searched Dix's former address in Carmarthen.
Dix, who was at the address, presented police with a tobacco tin containing a small amount of herbal cannabis.
The value of the drug was placed at £5.
During a later police interview Dix said she used the cannabis to gain an appetite as she had difficulty putting on weight.
Defending, Robyn Reed said Dix had pleaded guilty at the first opportunity.
He explained the reason for Dix's cannabis use.
"She has a very active thyroid gland and uses cannabis to help her get an appetite; she finds it very difficult to put weight on."
He added: "Her doctor has actually recommended cannabis for her."
He stressed: "I've advised her to seek different advice."
The court heard mother of four Dix had started a massage course at Pembrokeshire College and was currently taking a break from her studies.
Dix was fined £60 and was ordered to pay costs of £85 together with a surcharge of £15.
