Police found dozens of cannabis plants as they probed a major gas explosion which blew out a house's doors and windows.
A 30-year-old who suffered serious burns in the blast was due to be arrested and questioned on suspicion of cultivating the drug, West Midlands Police said this afternoon.
The explosion, which also dislodged brickwork, stunned neighbours in Copthorne Road, Birmingham at 8.15pm on Saturday, the Birmingham Mail reports.
One resident, Peggy Howes, dialled 999 after hearing the blast as she watched the X Factor. She said a man came running out of the house with what looked like burn injuries.
"He was shouting for someone to call an ambulance," the 41-year-old said. "I could see blood on his face. I rushed back into the house and called the emergency services.
"The bang was so loud - the whole of the street heard it. Everyone came out. We were sitting watching X Factor - it really startled us."
A second neighbour, who would not be named, said: "There was a massive boom. The house shook.
"Fifteen minutes later flashing blue lights were everywhere. Everybody was out saying: ‘Did you hear the explosion?'
"One man was being treated by paramedics. Police were there all night and this morning there was still a police car outside. Forensics have gone in."
