Police find 50 cannabis plants after searching flat in Concert Square area

Three people were arrested after violence flared near Liverpool’s Concert Square prompting the discovery of a hidden cannabis farm.

Police were called to Concert Street, next to the popular drinking venue, by a member of the public who said that three young men outside a bar were injured.

An ambulance was called and they were taken to the Royal Liverpool hospital after the alarm was raised at around 4pm on Tuesday.

Police making enquiries in nearby flats found 50 cannabis plants.

They cordoned off two flats overnight which were searched this morning .

The three injured males, aged 26, 16 and 17, were arrested on suspicion of being involved in an incident of violent disorder.

Detectives said the incident was “highly unusual and rare” for Liverpool city centre and have launched an investigation to track down everyone involved.

Detective Inspector Graeme Robson from St Anne Street CID, said; “We believe that an incident occurred in the street outside an apartment block involving a group of young men fighting.

“Some of the people involved suffered injuries and went into the flat before being found back outside in the street near a bar.

“We are still piecing together what exactly happened but we have arrested the three people found with injuries as we suspect they were involved in a violent incident.

“We are now carrying out extensive enquiries to trace every individual involved and I would appeal for witnesses to come forward.

“Violent incidents will not be tolerated in Liverpool or elsewhere in Merseyside and I would like to reassure the public that this is a highly unusual and rare occurrence for the city centre and the police are doing everything we can to bring those responsible to justice.”

One man, a 26-year-old from Toxteth, suffered a facial injury and will undergo surgery today.

The two youths, aged 16 and 17, suffered minor injuries and have been discharged from hospital.

They were interviewed by detectives before being released on condition police bail pending further enquiries.
