The force has announced that two men serving prison sentences for setting up the farm have been ordered to pay nearly £35,000 between them following court action under the Proceeds of Crime Act.
Adam Williams, 42, from Spaxton, was found to have benefited to the amount of £39,099 from his criminal activity, and David Bradbury, 51, from West Bagborough, by £35,720.
The pair were ordered to pay £31,370 and £2,905 respectively based on their assets, and face additional jail terms of one year in the case of Williams and six weeks in the case of Bradbury, if the amounts are not paid within six months.
The factory was set up inside four shipping containers buried on land at West Bagborough in Somerset. The entrance was a hatch, hidden in a caravan parked over the top of the containers.
When police officers climbed down the ladder into the factory they found 151 cannabis plants, with a street value estimated by officers at more than £150,000.
The raid in 2012 was part of Operation Viscount, a forcewide initiative against cannabis producers.
Dr Kirstie Cogram, Manager of Avon and Somerset Police’s Financial Investigation Unit, said: “The public can be assured that we will deprive criminals both of their liberty and assets if they have been making money through illegal activity like this.”
