Five 'cannabis swallowers' who attempted to smuggle more than 600 pellets of the drug through Dublin Airport have been arrested.
The men were x-rayed after customs officers caught them on a return flight from Madrid, during routine profiling on Thursday.
Tests revealed they had ingested over 600 pellets of cannabis resin with an estimated total weight of five kilograms and a potential street value of €60,000.
The individuals - a 45-year-old British man and four Romanians aged 25, 26, 52 and 53 - are being held in Gardaí custody.
A statement from Revenue's Customs Service said: "When officers questioned the men, two of them admitted to swallowing pellets of drugs.
"The men were detained in Garda custody and by noon today, the five had passed over 600 pellets of cannabis resin.
"It is estimated that the final quantity of drugs will be in the region of 5kgs representing a potential street value of €60,000."
It comes after another swallower was detected at the airport last Sunday.
The 25-year-old British man, also arriving from Madrid, was found to have ingested 115 pellets of cannabis resin, amounting to 1.16kgs.
He appeared in court earlier this week and was remanded in custody for a week.
