The Isle of Mans' first proposed medicinal cannabis café, The Green Lounge, has been succesful in overcoming some major planning hurdle and will now open in Ramsey, at the end of February, marking an important step forward for the recognotion of medicinal cannabis

Founder of the project Maria Bostock announced the approval on her birthday after nearly three months of anticipation.

Planning officer Chris Balmer noted that the café's activities align with those of a standard coffee shop, despite concerns from the Design Out of Crime Officer regarding safety measures. Maria expressed her joy, stating, "After nearly three months of patience and perseverance, it’s accomplished."

What are the aims of The Medicinal Cannabis Cafe?

The café aims to provide a supportive community hub for medicinal cannabis users, offering workshops and events without alcohol. Consumption Passes for legal users will be issued, allowing for pre-launch access.

The Green Lounge will not permit smoking indoors, only medical vaporisation for pass holders, with the café area open to those 18 and older. The initiative, described as "built for patients, by patients," aims to fill gaps in support and social environments for those using cannabis for medicinal purposes.

Despite challenges in the project's timeline, Maria is focused on final preparations for the opening at the end of February. "What an amazing birthday gift," she said, eager to welcome everyone.
