Everything You Need to Know About Cannabis Odour

Many factors influence the smell of cannabis, the most important being the point you harvest your crop.

Cannabis that has been harvested prematurely may have less of an odour. When you smoke it, it is also a less potent weed. If you grow at home, it is best to wait for the right time to harvest the buds. Buds from plants harvested at the right time and properly dried will have a more intense smell.

The smell also varies depending on the strain. Cannabis plants contain terpenes, which are the organic compounds responsible for the characteristic smell. For example, there are cannabis strains that have certain terpenes that give more of a citrusy aroma, like lemon.

What do cannabis plants smell like?

It is a specific, stinky, herbal smell, with notes of pine, which becomes more intense as the plant matures. Many plants will smell similar when growing, harvesting, or when they are dried or cured. The smell is also more obvious when the plant is flowering.

In most cases, Indica varieties tend to have more pungent and stinky aromas. Sativas can have very attractive, sweet, fruity or spicy smells, although they tend to be a little less smelly. Some people disagree that you can tell indicators from Sativas by their smell. One of their arguments is the large number of hybrids that mix the properties of Indicas and Sativas.

The smell of the buds can be different depending on the strain. The smell can also help you to know if the cannabis is of good or bad quality. Good quality cannabis should have a strong woody or earthy smell. Strong aromas are a sign of good quality cannabis.

If that pleasant aroma is not present in your buds, it may be that they are a little stale or mouldy. If you smell a strange smell when you light it up, you will know that the cannabis is of poor quality. It might still get you high, but you won't enjoy it as much.
