Exeter Crown Court
A cash strapped Barnstaple man grew cannabis plants worth £5,000 – to help him pay his rent.
Michael Pegg, 57, admitted producing the controlled drug last summer.
He told police he wanted "some extra cash to pay the rent".
Richard Crabb, defending, told Exeter Crown Court: "He was growing the cannabis to pay his rent. It’s an unusual case because he is not a cannabis user."
Sentence was adjourned and he was bailed.
