A DRIVER was caught with drugs hidden in his car's interior light, a court had heard.
Llanelli magistrates heard that a 22-year-old man was stung by a police check.
Bobby Trevor England, of Henfwlch Road, Carmarthen, pleaded guilty to possession of cannabis and driving without an MOT.
Prosecutor Gerald Neave said: "On December 2, police carried out an MOT check on a silver Ford Puma - the police check showed that this vehicle had no MOT."
Mr Neave told the court that police officer PC Phillips approached the car where he was aware of the smell of cannabis.
"PC Phillips searched the vehicle and the defendant removed the interior light and removed a metal tobacco box," he added.
Street value
This contained two grams of cannabis, with an estimated street value of £10.
England was reported for possession of cannabis and for driving a vehicle without an MOT. Mr Neave added: "He thought it was class C, but he was aware that it was an offence to possess it."
England's solicitor Robin Reed told the court that his client had taken the Puma into a garage for an MOT on November 27, but it had been refused.
Mr Reed presented the magistrates with a document from the garage corroborating that date.
He said: "They had given him a list of things he needed for the car and he was told that if the car was returned to that test station within 10 days, he would only have to pay a partial re-test fee."
Presiding magistrate Dr William Allan Evans fined England £55 for possessing cannabis and £20 for not having an MOT certificate.
England must also pay £85 costs and a victim surcharge of £20.
