A 49-YEAR-OLD man attempted to post more than £600 worth of cannabis in a flask to his brother in Scotland
Wayne Massey, of Acton Road, Burtonwood, pleaded guilty to possessing with intent to supply a controlled drug of class B at Halton Magistrates' Court.
The court heard how he sent the package, containing the drugs, at Burtonwood Sub Post Office, on Chapel Lane, on October 29 last year.
Once accepted, the package was sent to the sorting office where staff reported 'a suspicious smell', before it was seized by police, who went to his house the following day.
Prosecuting, Richard Sealey, said: "The cannabis had a street value of about £620, an officer has said."
Defence barrister David Rhodes claimed Massey committed the crime to external factors, including 'outside pressure'.
He said: "It is quite clear that he is remorseful - the death of his mother and financial issues in life led him to this situation."
Chairman of the bench Stephen Bradley said the fact that Massey took 'a lesser role' in the supply of drugs meant the offence was deemed as less serious.
He added: "The supply of drugs, no matter which scale, is a serious offence."
Massey was sentenced to a curfew order for 6 weeks, which prohibits him from leaving his house between 7pm-7am every day.
The cannabis was ordered to be destroyed.
