Lisa Woodman from Knowle, Bristol, was stopped by prison guards on January 31

Woodman, aged 33, who had been jailed twice before for similar offences, pleaded guilty earlier this week to the charge of bringing a list A article [cannabis] into a prison.

The court heard Woodman smuggled around 30 grams of cannabis, worth £106.25, into the Category C prison.

Woodman was jailed in May 2003 at Cardiff Crown Court for acting as a courier and being paid to smuggle cannabis resin into Parc prison in Bridgend.

When caught she admitted concealing the cannabis in her bra before transferring it to a cup of coffee. On that occasion she was jailed for nine months.

However, she appeared at Bristol Crown Court in October 2006 after being caught trying to smuggle heroin and cannabis into Bristol prison for a friend.

A sniffer dog drew attention to Woodman who attempted to ditch the drugs behind her. One package held 23.83 grams of cannabis while the other held 29.36 grams of heroin.

Her advocate claimed Woodman, who had two children, had an "entrenched" heroin habit since the age of 13 and had acted as courier because she was promised drugs in return. On that occasion she was jailed for four years.

After the latest conviction Det Insp John Phillips of Plymouth police said: "Police will take extremely seriously any individual who takes drugs into Her Majesty's prisons. The sentence in this case shows how seriously the court takes this type of offence."
