An environmental warden from Kettering Council sniffed out a cannabis factory which was raided by police earlier this month.
More than 100 plants were found by officers in the terraced home in Russell Street on April 16.
However, Kettering Council has revealed that the drug crop was discovered when a council environmental warden was visiting a neighbouring property in response to an odour complaint, believed to have been caused by rats.
A spokesman for the council said: "Upon further investigation he noticed the strong smell of cannabis coming from the house and alerted the Police and the Landlord of his concerns. A cannabis factory was discovered and action taken."
Shirley Plenderleith, head of environmental health at Kettering Council, said: "We are pleased a warden was able to assist the Police by reporting his concerns."
