A Tesco shopper was snared by police with a "joint" in his mouth at a Cambridge store - and it wasn't meat.

The man got more than he bargained for when he puffed on a cannabis "joint" in a supermarket car park.

Eagle-eyed police officers who were out on patrol spotted the driver of a car in the Tesco store in Yarrow Road, Fulbourn, with a cannabis "joint" hanging from his mouth.

A police spokeswoman said: "As officers drove through the car park they could see the driver of a vehicle had a cannabis joint in his mouth. Officers spoke to the occupants of the vehicle and there was a strong smell of cannabis.

"The vehicle was searched and a small bag of cannabis was found. The male was given a fine for possession of cannabis."

The incident happened on March 26.

Four days earlier at the same store, a shoplifter was spotted stealing "multiple items" from the aisles.

The offender was given a £90 fine.
