A teenager caught dealing in cannabis at a pub has been given a suspended sentence

Jordan Frost was detained by security staff who saw him acting suspiciously at the Amber Rooms, The Rushes, in Loughborough, on July 26.

He was found in possession of two bags containing 36.19 grams of cannabis flowering tops, with a street value of up to £450.

At Leicester Crown Court, Frost (19), of St Mary’s Crescent, Loughborough, pleaded guilty to possessing the class B drug, with intent to supply it.

He was given an eight month detention sentence, suspended or two years.

Judge Simon Hammond told him: “You’ve been saved by a razor’s edge from going into custody.

“It would have been immediate but for your early guilty plea and having no previous convictions.”

The judge said: “There are good reasons why cannabis is classified as an illegal drug.

“It can cause huge damage to mental health as well as other health difficulties.”

Victoria Rose, prosecuting, said that when the police examined Frost’s mobile phone they found incriminating text messages relating to his dealing in cannabis over a four week period.

Frost’s messages included offering users credit if they were short of money and sending out a global text advertising he had “good cannabis” for sale.

Helen Johnson, mitigating, said: “He started using cannabis at 12 or 13 and over a period of time it went from once a week until up to five times a day at around the time of his offending.

“He was selling it to fund his own use.”

She said Frost appeared to have a “normalised” view about taking the drug.

He also suffered from ADHD and had been self-medicating with cannabis.

Miss Johnson added: “His mother, who’s in court, tells me she’s spoken to him about his use of cannabis.

“He now realises he needs to become drug free and is going to seek a referral from his GP.

“He understands how seriously this matter is viewed by the court.

“References speak well of him and he’s always been a hard working young man.”
