A 30-YEAR-OLD has been spared jail after police raided his house and found a tent containing 12 cannabis plants in his cellar.
onathan Wood, who admitted producing the drug, has been given a three-month prison sentence, suspended for a year, and told to do 100 hours of unpaid work.
Police with a drugs warrant searched his home in Church Street, Normanton, and found a small amount of cannabis and amphetamine in the living area, Derby Crown Court was told.
They then looked in the cellar and found a 6ft by 6ft tent with 12 cannabis plants inside.
Prosecutor Alex Wolfson said it was estimated that they could have produced drugs which would sell for up to £6,000.
Chris Hallas, in mitigation, said Wood had not intended to financially gain from the cannabis set-up. Mr Hallas said: "He recovered the seeds from previous bags of cannabis he received.
"He planted the seeds, not expecting the plants to survive."
Mr Hallas said Wood smoked cannabis to alleviate a physical problem he had and would now have to find ways with his doctor to deal with his problems.
Sentencing Wood, Judge Jonathan Gosling said it had been "an amateur operation". Wood admitted producing cannabis and possessing cannabis and amphetamine on May 9.
