On June 30, Alvin Ntokozo Khumalo, 23, of Thirlmere Drive, was sentenced at Ipswich Crown Court after pleading guilty to bringing a prohibited article in or out of prison and also to possession of a Class B drug.
He had been visiting an inmate at Highpoint Prison in Newmarket.
After the sentencing, a spokeswoman for Suffolk Police explained to the Herts Ad that Khumalo had been observed in the visitor's hall at Highpoint passing an object to a prisoner whom he had been visiting.
It was later established that the item passed over was cannabis, with a value of £13.75.
