A reveller who was arrested on his birthday has been fined for cannabis possession.


A reveller who was arrested on his birthday has been fined for cannabis possession.

Duarte Mateus, of Kendal Way, appeared at Cambridge Magistrates Court on New Year's Eve.

Mateus, 37, pleaded guilty to possession of a Class B drug, and using threatening or abusive words or behaviour likely to cause alarm, distress of harassment.

Giles Beaumont, prosecuting, said Mateus attempted to buy some alcohol from a shop in Chesterton's Green End Road on December 5, but was refused service.

When police arrived on the scene, having been alerted by the shop, Mateus shouted obscenities at a female officer before being arrested.

He was ordered to pay a fine of £335, victim surcharge of £35, costs of £85, and a further fine of £165.
