GMP say thanks for tip off which led to 'significant seizure' of drugs in Rochdale
Police uncovered a £30,000 cannabis farm following a tip-off from members of the public.
Officers executed a drugs warrant in Ashbrook Crescent, Smallbridge, Rochdale, uncovering a substantial amount of cannabis.
They also found that the electricity meter in the house had been bypassed.
Pc Gordon Rycroft said: “This is a significant seizure, taking drugs off the street is one of my main priorities.
“I would like to add a very big thank-you to all those that have helped us.
“This result shows how important it is for the public and the police to work together to tackle drug-related crime.”
The seizure comes ahead of Greater Manchester Police’s new campaign to recruit an army of community watchers to help crack crime.
The ‘their crime your call’ campaign aims to increase both the reports of crime and also intelligence gathered about villains.
Det Supt Mark Smith, Greater Manchester Police’s director of intelligence, said: “Crime and intelligence reports that come from the public form a very large part of the information that GMP receives on a daily basis.
“The public, not just in Greater Manchester but in other areas of the UK, are fantastic at coming forward with information, which they believe can help GMP - and I can’t stress enough how much we appreciate their assistance.
“I would like to not only encourage people to keep coming forward with information about crimes they know have happened or are happening, but to also come forward and report anything suspicious that they know.
“This could be a crime they have heard is being planned, potential scams that are ongoing, suspicious behaviour they may have seen, previous incidents which they have heard about, or even an example of somebody living far beyond their means.”
