AN ALBANIAN immigrant was smuggled into Briton and put to work at a major cannabis farm in Port Talbot, a court has heard.

When officers raided the property on King Street in the town centre on January 9 they found Mentor Mata standing behind the front door with a key to the house in his hand - and more than 250 cannabis plants inside, along with a sophisticated lighting and watering system, and bags of fertiliser.

Five of the semi-detached house's eight rooms had been given over to cultivating the drug, and the operation was drawing so much electricity from the mains that the power supply cable was melting.

Kate Smith, prosecuting, said 29-year-old Mata had been smuggled into Britain from Belgium on the back of a lorry two weeks before the police raid, and was taken first to London and then to Port Talbot.
