An anonymous tip-off to Avon and Somerset police through their website led to about £8,000 worth of cannabis being found in a house.
A member of the public sent a message suggesting plants that make the class B drug were being cultivated in Herridge Road, Hartcliffe, and so it proved.
PC Helen Head, the neighbourhood beat manager for the area, said: “This shows the value of the community using the Avon and Somerset Constabulary website.
“Whilst we would always encourage people to speak to us directly, we will act upon anonymous information where we have powers to do so.
“The address involved is a council property and we shall be working with Bristol City Council to help them enforce their tenancy conditions with regards to this sort of offence.
“We hope that anyone else considering undertaking similar activities will think twice when they realise that their council home could also be at risk.”
A 36-year-old man is now "helping officers with their enquiries".
