Police seized 100 cannabis plants after officers in the force helicopter noticed large amounts of heat escaping from a house this morning.

The helicopter's thermal imaging camera picked up heat generated by the cultivation equipment inside the house, in Barclay Street, off Narborough Road, Leicester today.

They notified officers at Hinckley Road police station who then executed a search warrant at the house.

They found approximately 100 plants in the loft and arrested an 18-year-old man. They also seized the cultivation equipment, including lamps, which generated the heat.

The helicopter was flying over the area as part of another inquiry.

Sgt Paul Wootton, of Hinckley Road police station, said: "It was a great spot by the helicopter and this result has led to a significant amount of cannabis not getting out on the streets.

"I would urge anyone to contact the police if they have information on drug misuse in their area."
