Neighbours looked on in shock as equipment was removed in yet another police drugs raid in Newcastle suburb
This is the moment police cleared out a huge drugs farm that had been hidden away in a Tyneside home.
Officers stormed the property in Heaton, Newcastle, on Wednesday afternoon after arresting two burglary suspects nearby.
And once inside they found a number of cannabis plants in the loft of the home on Warwick Street.
Neighbours watched on as a number of uniformed police officers spent the rest of the afternoon clearing out the makeshift drugs factory.
Today one woman, who lives on the street, has told the Chronicle how cannabis farms are now being found regularly in the area.
The neighbour, who asked not to be named, said: “There have been quite a few drugs busts around this area. It seems to be getting more and more common.”
Police were called to Heaton at around 12.40pm on Wednesday after two men were spotted acting suspiciously near a home.
When officers arrived they stopped a car and arrested two people on suspicion of burglary.
And after seizing a quantity of cannabis, police searched the property on Warwick Street.
The neighbour continued: “I was just looking out the window when I saw cops at the back door of the house across from us.
“At first I thought somebody had broken in but then when I looked about half an hour later I saw them carrying out plants and black bags.
“It looked like a lots of plants and they were big.
“I don’t know who lives there. I don’t think I have ever seen anybody coming or going.”
A Northumbria Police spokeswoman said: “At 12.40pm, on Wednesday a report was received of suspicious males around an address in the Heaton area.
“Officers attended the scene where a vehicle was stopped and two men arrested from inside, plus an amount of cannabis seized.
“The arrests led to the search of a property on Warwick Street where a cannabis farm was discovered in the loft area.
“The two men, aged 50 and 31, have been bailed pending further inquiries. Inquiries into the incident are ongoing.”
