A traveler found himself in a precarious situation at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport when law enforcement officers allegedly uncovered a staggering nearly $3 million worth of marijuana concealed in his luggage.

The 22-year-old, identified as Vance Ray Randolph, was preparing to embark on a journey to São Paulo, Brazil, carrying an astonishing haul of more than 50 pounds of narcotics.

On June 28, in a coordinated operation between the Atlanta Police Department and Customs and Border Protection (CBP), authorities seized a substantial cache of THC-infused products and marijuana from Randolph. This dramatic discovery was first reported in a vivid Facebook post by the Atlanta Police on July 13, detailing how the drugs were found nestled within his suitcase.

Once the contraband was uncovered, Randolph was swiftly taken into custody and transported to Clayton County Jail, facing serious charges of marijuana trafficking. Court records reveal that he was released just two days later, on June 30.

How Much Cannabis Was Recovered?

The search revealed an astonishing assortment of drugs: 12.35 pounds of potent THC wax, 34.39 pounds of hashish—a concentrated form of cannabis known for its potency—4.6 pounds of traditional marijuana, and an additional 1.21 pounds of marijuana, adding up to a staggering street value estimated at $2.97 million.

In a statement, CBP confirmed the shocking turn of events, explaining how a vigilant canine unit alerted them to a suspicious suitcase destined for Brazil. Inside, they uncovered a green, leafy substance that tested positive for marijuana, leading to the handover of both the suitcase and the U.S. citizen to the Atlanta Police Department for local prosecution.
