Six men have been arrested after police found around 800 cannabis plants at an Ongar farm.

The find was made at an address in King Street around midday on Friday and is believed to be the largest in Essex.

The men have been charged with one count of being concerned in the production of a Class B drug as 10kg of cannabis was uncovered at the farm.

Jobless Stephen Francis, 45, of no fixed address; Joseph Xenofondos, a 39-year-old man of no fixed address, unemployed Anthony Georgiou, 49, of no fixed address, out-of-work Christopher Reilly, 49, of no fixed address, driver Jamie Walters, 56, from Ackroid Drive in Bow in east London and unemployed John Brown, 35, from Appleby Drive in Romford are being detained in police custody before their appearances at Chelmsford Magistrates Court on Monday, March 17.

Neighbourhood Policing Insp Andy Fusher said: "The closure of this farm and the arrests has undoubtedly put a massive dent in the local cannabis supply market and will help in some way to enhancing the quality of life for hundreds of people; residents living nearby as well as others dependent on this illegal drug which ruins lives and is linked to other everyday crime."
