ONE Direction bosses are dropping the investigation into the band's spliff shame video over fears Louis Tomlinson and Zayn Malik could be forced to discuss their drug use in court.
ONE Direction bosses are dropping the investigation into the band's spliff shame video over fears Louis Tomlinson and Zayn Malik could be forced to discuss their drug use in court.
The Daily Star Sunday can also reveal the lads and their management have not contacted police despite publicly claiming the footage came from a stolen phone.
The twist came after Sony lawyers evaluated the "damage liability" of the band pursuing legal action against those publishing the video.
PR bosses for the group insisted the authorities got involved after Louis, 22, and Zayn, 21, were filmed smoking cannabis in a car in Peru in March. But legal eagles have warned if they pursue the publishers they have the right to question Louis, Zayn and other band members in open court about their drug use.
A source said: "The best course of action now is to act like it never happened and move on."
The band's team also decided against pursuing any legal action over the "stolen" phone.
The Metropolitan Police confirmed no record of a stolen phone had been logged with them by anyone from the band.
It is possible the phone was reported stolen overseas as the group were touring at the time.
But our 1D source said: "The decision was taken not to make it a criminal matter and keep it internal."
